Prospect Watch: El Paso snapped a three-game skid against the Aviators and will try to earn the series split this weekend. El Paso had 10 hits Friday night, with every starter notching at least one hit. … Matthew Batten was the lone Chihuahua to record a multi-hit effort in the win. The versatile Batten started at first and had a double, a triple, and drew a walk. The 29-year-old infielder had a tremendous May but was just 2-for-19 in June prior to Friday’s contest. Overall, Batten has a .759 OPS which is about 10 percent below league average in the PCL. … Eguy Rosario only had one hit but it left the yard. It was his sixth homer in 25 games as the former big leaguer continues to hit well. Rosario has a solid 20.4% K-rate with El Paso after punching out in 36.5% of his plate appearances with the Padres. He’s also drawing walks at a strong 14.8% clip. At this point, Rosario has little to prove in Triple-A so he will await his next big league opportunity. … After a rough start from Ryan Carpenter, the Chihuahuas bullpen allowed just two runs in six innings. The best work came from veteran Tommy Nance, who earned his second win of the season. He threw two innings, allowing just one hit, and striking out two. The 33-year-old signed with the Padres as a minor league free agent last winter after spending last season in the Marlins system. He had a stint on the injured list earlier this season but has pitched well since coming back. In eight outings, he has a 4.50 ERA in 10 innings. … Lefty Austin Davis pitched the ninth inning to notch his fourth save of the season. He retired the Aviators in order, notching a save in the process. The 31-year-old nicknamed “Big Fudge” has been arguably El Paso’s best reliever this season. In 24 appearances, he’s pitched to a 3.09 ERA while racking up 30 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.

Missions 3, Midland RockHounds 1

Key Statistics: 1B Robbie Tenerowicz, 1-for-3, R, BB, SB (1); C Brandon Valenzuela, 1-for-4, R, HR (3), 3 RBI; 3B Marcos Castañon, 1-for-3, R, BB; RHP Jared Kollar (W, 4-2) 6 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 7 K; RHP Carter Loewen, IP, BB, K; RHP Josh Roberson (S, 3) IP, H

Prospect Watch: The Missions used a three-run homer from Brandon Valenzuela to back up a strong start by Jared Kollar and defeat Midland. … The homer from Valenzuela was his third of the year. The switch-hitting catcher, like most of the Missions, struggled mightily in May. He hit just .182/.241/.299 but he’s looked better of late. He’s reached base safely in his last five games and is hitting .278/.458/.444 so far this month. … First baseman Robbie Tenerowicz reached base twice with a single and a walk. The 29-year-old also stole his first base of the season. The former Mariners farmhand was released May 1 by Seattle and signed with the Padres to reinforce the Missions roster. Since joining San Antonio, the former Cal Bear is hitting .218/.324/.333 in 25 games for San Antonio this season. … While the Missions’ pitching staff is full of top-20 prospects in the system, it’s been the undrafted free agent Kollar who has quietly been the most effective for San Antonio. The 25-year-old signed out of Rutgers worked a season-high six innings, allowing just one run on four hits. He walked one and struck out seven. The excellent work from Kollar lowered his ERA to 3.30. He’s walked just nine batters in 46.1 innings this season while notching 46 strikeouts.

TinCaps 6, Peoria Chiefs 3

Prospect Watch: John Conniff is in Fort Wayne this weekend. Read his recap of the TinCaps win here

Inland Empire 66ers 8, Storm 7 (11 innings)

Key Statistics: CF Nick Vogt, 3-for-5, R, 2B, 3B, BB, RBI; RF Braedon Karpathios, 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B, BB; C Oswaldo Linares, 1-for-3, 2 R, BB, 2 RBI; RHP Eric Yost, 6.1 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 9 K; RHP Dwayne Matos, 2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K; RHP Yerry Landinez 1.2 IP, BB; RHP Will Varmette (L, 1-2) 0 IP, H, R (0 ER)

Prospect Watch: The Storm led 7-2 going into the ninth inning but the 66ers exploded for five runs to tie the game. Inland Empire pushed across a run in the 11th inning to steal the win away from the Storm. … Nick Vogt had three hits, finishing a homer short of the cycle. He also drew a walk and drove in a run. The former UC Santa Barbara outfielder had a two-week stint on the injured list but has been red-hot since returning to the lineup. Over his last seven games, Vogt is hitting .357 with five multi-hit games in seven starts. … Right fielder Braedon Karpathios had a double, a single, and a walk in the loss. The 20-year-old outfielder has worked on a more aggressive approach this year and while he’s struggled to make consistent contact, he has been able to put up impressive exit velocities. In 50 games for the Storm, he is hitting .235/.365/.342 with two homers and 26 RBI. … Eric Yost turned in an excellent outing and was in a position to earn the win before the game got away. The former Northeastern hurler worked a season-high 6.1 innings and allowed just one run on four hits. He walked one and struck out a career-high nine batters. The 21-year-old started the season in the Storm bullpen before stepping into the rotation. He’s struggled with consistency this season but has struck out 31 batters over his last 28.2 innings.

ACL Cubs 7, ACL Padres 2 (7 innings)

Key Statistics: C Colton Vincent, 1-for-3, R; LF L.J. Jones, 2-for-3, R, HR (2), 2 RBI; RHP Langston Burkett (L, 1-1) 0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, BB; LHP Yovannki Pascual, 2.2 IP, H, 3 K

Prospect Watch: The ACL Padres allowed five runs in the first and lost to the ACL Cubs in the desert. … Left fielder L.J. Jones had a pair of hits, including his second homer since signing with the Padres earlier this week as a free agent. The 24-year-old played collegiately at Long Beach State after playing his high school ball locally at Eastlake High School. Judging by his quick start in the desert, Jones should be headed to a full-season affiliate soon. … Langston Burkett made his first appearance in three weeks, but recorded just one out before being pulled. He allowed four runs on three hits, walking one. The 19-year-old from Santa Cruz signed with the Padres as an undrafted free agent last season out of high school. After showing some impressive stuff in the spring, his velocity has been down and he’s struggled in the ACL. In seven innings, he’s pitched to a 16.71 ERA. … Lefty Yovannki Pascual pitched well in relief again, racking up 2.2 shutout innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out three. The 21-year-old signed with the organization last season as an international free agent. He spent last year in the DSL and has thrown the ball well in the desert this year. In 13 innings, he’s pitched to a 2.77 ERA.
